The Garnet Key members proudly watched as 5,000 of their fellow classmates graduated from Concordia University at spring convocations on June 9, 10 and 11.
Dr. Alan Shepard joined honorands in offering his best wishes to the class of 2014.
“We prepare a diverse group of students for a global world that loves our graduates’ can-do attitude: your brilliance, your entrepreneurial energy, your creativity and your ambition to make the world a better place,” he said.
Cameron Tisshaw, a member of the 56th Garnet Key, stood on the stage as one of the university’s eight valedictorians. His words of encouragement conveyed confidence in his fellow graduates for the new challenges ahead.
“We will grow. We will thrive. We will extend Concordia’s values of harmony, tolerance and intellectual rigour,” Tisshaw said. “We will become the Concordia diaspora that spreads around the entire globe.”
Eight new honorands also provided sound advice to Concordia’s new graduates. Stuart McLean, host of CBC Radio’s The Vinyl Café, reminded us of the responsibility that comes with citizenship, stressing the importance of focusing on what is working within our society rather than on what is wrong with it.
The resounding message during these three days was one of congratulations and encouragement.
