Another post as part of our John Molson Graduate Experience series, a multi-part video series released throughout 2021-- featuring many experience-centered, hands-on learning opportunities relevant to our graduate programs and students throughout different disciplines.

A collaborative, year-long course, Surgical Innovation brings together students from the John Molson MBA, McGill University’s Faculty of Medicine and the École de Technologie Supérieure (ÉTS) to explore the hospital environment and develop a list of technical gaps in the surgical field.

Students begin by meeting surgeons, general practitioners, nurses, managers, and more to get a full perspective of what’s currently available in medical technology and where there is still room for improvement. They then form groups to develop business plans and create new surgical devices.

In the short video below, Professor Sandra Betton, Associate Dean, Graduate Professional Programs, talks about the course, the 3-university collaboration, and how this experiential elective prepares future entrepreneurs and innovators for what’s to come in the field of medical technology.
