Working in the Core Technical Centre shops

Plan ahead

The Core Technical Centre staff need to carefully manage their time supporting other student projects along with virtual and in-person consultations. If you drop in without an appointment, we may not have time to help you so please book a consultation. Project timelines can be unpredictable so start early. Our experts will help you find the best solution in the time available.

A consultation is required

It is important that you have a plan for your project prior to your production time in the shops. In order to schedule a time, you will first need to have a consultation with one of the CTC Technicians to review and validate you project. You may book a  virtual or in-person consultation.

Before you schedule your consultation

You should first discuss the project with your professor and try to clarify what material will be used. The material selection will help determine which shop to contact.

Subsequently, you should prepare a drawing with scale or reference to size. This will help the technician validate that the project scope is possible.

If you are not sure how to get started, book a consultation. We are happy to answer any questions.

Why a first consultation is necessary

The purpose of the first consultation with the technician is to get the project communication rolling. The next steps will include further development of the details so the technician can verify the material availability and identify the process steps with the necessary tools.
