Michael Pelosi, BComm 08 “If you can conduct your day-to-day work with passion, while being humble and open to learning new things, you’ll have an amazing career.”

As an account executive on the financial-services team at Google Canada, Pelosi is responsible for partnering with some of the world’s best-known financial firms along with some of North America’s fastest growing FinTech and InsurTech companies.

Before joining the search giant, he worked in New York City as vice-president, business development, at market research start-up Crowdtap (now Suzy), earning the distinction of second-greatest revenue-generator in the company’s 10-year history.

Though he went on to obtain an MBA from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Pelosi says his time at the John Molson School of Business (JMSB) gave him with the fundamentals that helped him succeed.

“It provided me with the business acumen I needed to feel confident in my first job after school. The core classes at JMSB ensured that I could hit the ground running as soon as I started my professional career.”

Biggest career challenge to date

I was so demoralized after one of our largest enterprise clients decided to cancel their contract at the last minute. I didn’t know how I was going to recover, but I was lucky to have an incredible team that supported and motivated me to push forward. You’re going to get knocked down during your career. Although you might be able to get back up on your own, it’s a whole lot easier if you surround yourself with an amazing group of people.”

Biggest inspiration

My Mom. She raised my four brothers and me while working a full-time job that usually involved her having to travel. She taught me that with hard work, persistence and confidence anything is possible.”
