Alumnus/Alumna of the Year

Sandra Paikowsky, is a professor emeritus in Concordia’s Department of Art History and a member of the Order of Canada for her role in the development of Canadian art history as a discipline.

Paikowsky joined the department in 1969 and retired in 2012. She co-founded the one-of-a-kind Journal of Canadian Art History/Annales d'histoire de l'art canadien in 1974, where she held the role of managing editor until 2010 and publisher until 2012. She remains a member of the journal's editorial board.

From 1981 to 1992, as the director and curator of the Concordia Art Galley (now the Leonard and Bina Ellen Art Gallery), she promoted women artists, modern and contemporary Montreal art and Canadian artists whose work was not usually seen in Montreal.
