As part of the province of Quebec’s 2021 municipal general elections taking place throughout the fall, results for Montreal and surrounding areas were announced on November 7. With more than 1,1000 municipalities holding elections across the province, a large number of Concordia alumni are among this year’s winners.
Representing all four faculties — Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science, Faculty of Arts and Science, John Molson School of Business and Faculty of Fine Arts — meet the grads helping to make a difference in local politics.

Georges Bourelle, BComm 74
Bourelle — who was first appointed as mayor of the City of Beaconsfield in 2013 and again in 2017 — was re-elected for a third term in 2021.
Maja Vodanovic, BFA 94
Vodanovic has been the mayor of the borough of Lachine since November 2017. She is also an artist and former teacher in Concordia’s Department of Studio Arts.

Rabouin was re-elected borough mayor of the Plateau with a landslide 75 per cent of the vote. He was first elected in October 2019.
Alexander Bottausci, BA 94, EMBA 13
A lifelong resident of Dollard-des-Ormeaux, Bottausci has served as mayor of the Montreal suburb since 2017.
Tim Thomas, MA 87
Thomas narrowly succeeded John Belvedere as mayor of the City of Pointe-Claire. He is a former policy analyst at Ottawa’s Privy Council Office and former professor of politics and economics.

Owner of a successful accounting practice, Levi is the new mayor of Hampstead after garnering 55 per cent of the vote. Prior to this appointment, he was a regular at Hampstead council meetings.
