Film Production alumni win awards at Montreal International Documentary Festival

Some of our former film production students won a large variety of honors at RIDM on Saturday November 18, 2017. Jacquelyn Mills won the Best Canadian Short or Medium-length film for In the Waves, while Tao Gu won Best Canadian Feature for Taming the Horse.

While In the Waves has recieved the following honors:

2017 Atlantic International Film Festival, Best Documentary, Best Editor
2017 New Hampshire International Film Festival, Grand Jury Prize
2017 Montréal International Documentary Film Festival (RIDM) Best Canadian Medium Length Film

Both films are Greenground productions, a little company of (mostly) Concordia grads including Aonan Yang '08, who co-produced both films, Fish Yu, who shot and co-produced Taming the Horse, Andreas Mendritzki '08, who co-produced both films, Nguyen-Anh Nguyen '08, who co-produced Jacquelyn's film. In addition, another Greenground film, Primas  winner of Audience Choice Award - MDQ Fest Mar del Plata Jury Special Mention - RIDM Montreal, directed by Laura Bari (not a Concordian), received a Special Mention (for Canadian feature) was co-produced by Aonan and Andreas, and shot by Glauco Bermudez, another Concordia graduate. Aonan and Andreas are currently in Amsterdam, representing Primas at IDFA, the only North American film in this prestigious documentary competition, while Taming the Horse was be one of only eight competition films in the Festival des 3 Continents in Nantes, France and took home the Grand Prize.
