Peter Kruyt joined the Power Corporation of Canada in 1981 – first as assistant to Paul Desmarais Sr., then chief executive officer of Power Broadcasting. He later became vice president responsible for China in 1996. In January of 2018, he was named senior advisor to the Power Corporation of Canada.

He is vice-chair of Sagard China, a fund of Chinese public equities based in Shanghai, and vice-chair of Power Energy Corporation, a renewable energy company in solar and wind power generation (Potentia), electric buses and trucks (Lion), as well as sustainable LED lighting solutions (Lumenpulse).

Over the years, he served as director of Great-West Lifeco, Bombardier Sifang (Qingdao) Transportation Ltd. and La Presse Ltée, and as an alternate director on the board of CITIC Pacific Ltd., a conglomerate headquartered in Hong Kong. He chaired the Canada-China Business council for 16 years until November 2018.

An active member of the community who supports various causes, including Centraide of Greater Montreal and St. Mary’s Hospital, he is also on the board of directors for the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada (APF Canada) and Montréal International. He was appointed Chair in 2017 of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) and more recently of its Research Centre.

Kruyt received his Bachelor of Commerce degree from Concordia University in 1978 and an MBA from the European Institute of Business Administration (INSEAD). He served on Concordia’s board of governors for 12 years and acted as chair from 2005 to 2012.

In 2019 he facilitated a $5.6M gift to Concordia's Faculty of Fine Arts by introducing donor Leslie Raenden, representative of the Peter N. Thomson Family Trust and stepdaughter of the late Peter N. Thomson, to Concordia's president and dean of Fine Arts.
