Position description

We seek candidates in Finance with research interests in Sustainable Finance Solutions and Risk Assessment for a Low-Carbon and Equitable Future at the rank of Assistant Professor. Exceptional candidates at the Associate level may also be considered. Duties include research, teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels, and service to the institution. The appointment includes a normal teaching load of four courses per academic year (typically two per term) and active participation in service and academic citizenship. NB This position is accompanied by a Volt-Age Research Fellowship.

Qualifications and assets

Candidates have completed their PhD degree in Finance or a related discipline (or are near completion) at the start date of their appointment. The primary area of interest is Finance, broadly defined. Candidates from related fields will be considered if their research is finance-oriented and aligned with the sustainability focus indicated in the position title. We seek candidates with an emerging or established record of high-quality research and strong potential for future scholarly impact. Particular attention will be given to applicants whose work connects to sustainable finance and risk assessment relevant to a low-carbon and equitable future, but applications are welcome from candidates across all areas of Finance whose work can engage with these issues. 

The main criteria for selection are research excellence and the potential to build an internationally visible scholarly program. The successful candidate will present evidence of high-quality research outputs and/or a strong research pipeline, with the potential to publish in leading peer-reviewed finance journals and to secure competitive external research funding. The candidate will also demonstrate strong teaching capacity at the undergraduate and graduate levels (MBA, MSc, and/or PhD). The appointment includes a normal teaching load of four courses per academic year (typically two per term) and active participation in service and academic citizenship. 

Candidates are encouraged to share any career interruptions or personal circumstances that may have had an impact on their career goals (such as the decision to have a family, eldercare, illness, and so forth) in their letter of application. These will be carefully considered in the assessment process. The Department values diversity among its faculty and strongly encourages applications from those who will contribute to that profile. Concordia University is an English-language institution of higher learning at which the primary language of instruction and research is English. Since this position supports academic functions of the university, proficiency in English is required. Working knowledge of French, including reading and grading student work in French, is an asset.
