Mission/mandate/about the organisation

La Cabane - Fabrique Familiale is an intergenerational community space where families learn and grow together through co-creation. Driven by the philosophy that children are active citizens of today, our mission is anchored in three core pillars: promoting healthy habits, nurturing creativity, and fostering active community engagement. Grounded in the pedagogical "4Ps" framework (Projects, Peers, Passion, and Play), we provide a warm, inclusive environment equipped with a creative corner, climbing wall, and family café. Our mandate focuses on offering accessible spaces where families of all ages and backgrounds can connect and experiment, specifically adapting our activities for neurodivergent children and parents. By bringing together artistic exploration and social solidarity, La Cabane aims to strengthen family bonds and empower our neighbourhood through the simple, transformative power of collaborative art and playful learning.

Areas of interest that can be explored through the internship

We offer unique, hands-on internships for BFA in Art Education students looking to dive into community-based teaching throughout the fall and winter semesters. Interns facilitate our lively after-school programs (Mon-Tues-Wed) and animate our weekend Creative Corner—a cozy, Art Hive-style craft space where families come to co-create. We also welcome interns during our summer camps, thanks to the Elspeth McConnell Fine Arts Internship Award. Our camp interns get unique experience with "reverse inclusion" for neurodivergent youth, focusing on stress-free, process-based art. We welcome all kinds of artistic backgrounds and seek interns who love visual arts, material experimentation, nature art, and crafting. If you are passionate about relational pedagogy and learning through play, this is an opportunity to explore a small and unique community space, design inclusive workshops, and facilitate art outside of traditional classroom settings.
