Premising itself on the idea of vegetal and human entanglements, the project weaves a collection of provocations, questions and investigations that explore and interrogate the multi-faceted notions of a weed.
In the spring of 2020, artist Adad Hannah began his Social Distancing Portraits series in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. For this series, the artist took video portraits (from a distance) of strangers, friends, and family members in front of their homes, on the street, at work, or at public gatherings and demonstrations.
The series highlights one text-image pairing per month for an entire year with the intention of generating reflections on systemic racism and creating spaces for Black representation.
