Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this summer can still be an exciting time for your children.

Due to the cancellation of the university’s in-person camps, Concordia has been hard at work planning and designing online programming that retains the spirit of its traditional summer programs.

So this season there’s no need for early morning wake-ups, packed lunches or back-and-forth travel to camp.

Concordia is bringing summer adventures to your home.

After registering, all you’ll need is an internet connection, camp materials and the willingness to see your kids busy, learning and having fun all season long.

The selection of online summer camps includes:

GirlSET (Girls Summer Engineering and Technology)

It’s not all applied math and science! Studying engineering and technology encourages creativity, innovation and leadership to make a difference in society.

This two-week program provides engineering experience for girls currently in grades eight to 11. With design challenges and informative activities, GirlSET aims to encourage young women to pursue engineering as a career.

Athletics summer camps

Concordia Athletics camps are offering a modified program for summer 2020. The purpose of doing a virtual summer camp is to provide campers aged nine to 12 with skill-development exercises, fun activities and games, a sense of community and the ability to safely make new friends.

Activities will include French, math, science and social games.

Although the fundamental structure of summer camps has been altered, organizers are delivering the same authentic, professional and empowering experiences that participants are used to receiving from in-person programming. Choose from any of the following options:

  • Virtual Hockey Camp
  • Virtual Soccer Camp
  • Virtual Multi-Activity Camp
  • Virtual Hockey + Multi-Activity Camp
  • Virtual Soccer + Multi-Activity Camp

Fine Arts virtual camps

Can’t make it to your studio? Make art at home! The YMCA-Fine Arts Concordia camps have been reworked for an online environment. Registration opens June 29 and camps start July 13.

Campers will be able to choose from four areas — dance, theatre, music and visual arts — and will be divided into smaller groups for children aged 9-12 and teens aged 13-17.

Monday, Wednesday and Friday will feature live group sessions with camp counsellors (nearly all of whom are Concordia students); on Tuesdays and Thursdays, campers can connect through pre-recorded video, which they can watch at their leisure.

  • Theatre: Dive into all aspects of creating and presenting a play.
  • Dance: Explore a range of dance styles, performed both individually and in a group.
  • Visual arts: Let your inner artist flourish. Try a range of artistic styles and develop your artistic skills.
  • Music (9-12): If your child is wild about music and loves to sing, this is for them. With a focus on the voice, singing solo and in groups.
  • Music (13-17): Singing, writing music, thinking about a musical career — this camp is ideal for music maniacs who want to test all facets of the music world.
