What’s the difference between career counselling and career advising?
A career counsellor helps you make choices about your academic and career path based on your strengths and interests. They can help you find out what you can do with your degree, whether that means entering the job market or continuing your studies.
A career advisor helps you with your job search. They can give you tips and resources to help you land the job you want.
Not sure what you can do with your degree, or if you’re even in the right program? Meet with a career counsellor to:
Find out what you can do with your major
Choose the right degree for you
Plan for further education
Explore your strengths, interests, and passions to guide you to the right career path
Find out how your interests can influence your future career
Are you looking for a career-related job or part-time work? Meet with a career advisor to:
Find jobs in your field
Find career-related experience
Find a part-time or summer job
Improve your résumé and cover letter
Ace your next interview
Review your LinkedIn profile
Learn networking strategies
Access to services varies according to your student status (currently attending courses or not) and your place of residence. Before booking an appointment, check which services you have access to.

Please note that students must call to book their own appointments. Parents, friends, etc., cannot book appointments on behalf of a student.
Please also note: during peak periods, there may be longer wait times to book an appointment due to the high volume of requests.
Personal counselling is available for students residing in Quebec through Counselling and Psychological Services. Students residing outside Quebec and outside Canada can seek support through Wellness Together Canada, a 24/7 tele-counselling line.
You must cancel 24 hours in advance if you are unable to keep your appointment with Career and Planning Services. Please call 514-848-2424 ext. 3921 to cancel.
If you expect to be late for your appointment, please email the person who sent you the ZOOM invitation for your appointment to let them know. If you are more than 20 minutes late, your appointment time may be given to another student.
