This workshop will focus on the main sources of social statistics in Canada, namely Statistics Canada's Website, more specifically the Data section and the Canadian Census. Provincial statistics (Institut de la Statistique du Québec) will also be mentioned. The second part of the presentation will present the concept of microdata and introduce students to data available through the Data Liberation Initiative (DLI). We will review the best methods to identify relevant surveys. The various types of data files (PUMFs, Master Files) will be described and students will be shown how to access those files via the Odesi database or by going to the Research Data Centre at McGill (QICSS). There will be a demonstration of Odesi which will focus on searching the platform for surveys and individual variables and on downloading datasets and associated documentation. Learning Outcomes 1. Gain awareness of a note-taking technique, which is productive to writing. 2. Students will differentiate between aggregate statistics and Microdata2. Use the new, advanced note-taking functionality in Zotero 6. 3. Discover how to integrate references from your Zotero library with notes you create in dedicated note-taking applications."

This workshop aims to deepen faculty’s knowledge and understanding of what decolonizing the curriculum means and provide concrete strategies for decolonizing and Indigenizing curriculum and pedagogical practices in meaningful and respectful ways. The presenters will discuss and share their collaborative work, stories, experiences and lessons learned in decolonizing a course syllabus in the Sculpture Program, Faculty of Fine Arts. At the end of this workshop, participants will: - Gain the tools to critically evaluate course syllabus with a decolonial lens. - Examine and define key concepts such as decolonization, and Indigenization, eurocentrism as it relates to course design and pedagogical practices. - Identify concrete strategies to decolonize and center Indigenous perspectives in curriculum design and pedagogical practices.

In this hands-on workshop you will learn how to use Zotero, a desktop and web-based tool that you can use to organize the references you find in library catalogues and databases, insert citations in your papers, and prepare bibliographies or reference lists quickly and effectively, in a wide variety of citation styles (e.g. APA, MLA, Chicago, et cetera). We will look at how to integrate Zotero with Microsoft Word, LibreOffice, and Google Docs. We will also cover how to share folders and citations (e.g., for collaborative projects or to disseminate reading lists). No experience with Zotero is necessary. From the Cold War to the present day, we will discuss a new documentary series entitled "Evangelicals: From Faith to Power" with one of its co-producers, Dr. Philippe Gonzalez. After screening Part 1 of the documentary, we will examine the movement's impressive rise on a global level, showcasing its growing impact in religious, social, and political spheres. Dr. Philippe Gonzalez is a distinguished Senior Lecturer and Researcher specializing in the Sociology of Communication and Culture at the University of Lausanne. His research is centered around the involvement of Evangelical Protestantism in the public sphere. In 2014, he authored Que ton règne vienne: des évangéliques tentés par le pouvoir absolu (Labor et Fides), a seminal work that sheds light on the theological-political claims of evangelicals in today's world. The workshop will briefly situate the university library within settler colonialism in Canada, provide context to current research on Indigenous topics and include discussions around the limits of terminology and subject classification.
