Certificate in Foundations for Business

The 30-credit undergraduate Certificate in Foundations for Business program allows students to complete John Molson prerequisites before entering into a full business undergraduate degree. 

Please Note:

  • Certificate in Foundations for Business students may apply to a John Molson Bachlor's degree once they have completed the prerequisites.
  • Credits earned in the Certificate in Foundations for Business can be used towards the completion of a John Molson Bachelor's degree.

Admission Requirements

Applicants to the John Molson Certificate in Foundations for Business program must meet the admission requirements specific to their academic background outlined below. 

Admission Criteria

Cegep applicants completing any Diplôme d’études collégiales (DEC) must achieve a minimum overall CRC of 23.5. There is no specific mathematics requirement.

Potential Course Exemptions

Once applicants are admitted based on their overall CRC score, admitted students may be awarded course exemptions in the following Cegep courses:

Applicants must be graduating from high school (Grade 12) in Canada with the required number of senior-level grade 12 courses and have a minimum overall grade equivalent to a B- (2.7 GPA on 4.3 scale).

Graduation from an accredited high school. Please include your school profile with your admissions application. 

Applicants must be completing grade 12 with a minimum overall grade equivalent to a B-  (2.7 GPA a 4.30 scale). There is no specific mathematics requirement. Final grade 11 and mid-year grade 12 results are used to calculate admissions averages. A GED may be considered.

Advanced Placement (AP) exams are not required buy you may may qualify for advanced standing. SAT or ACT socres are not required for admission; admissions is based solely on high school grades.

 

Applicants from the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma program must achieve an overall predicted score of 27 points. There is no specific mathematics requirement.

* Applicants who have completed higher level (HL) mathematics may be eligible for course exemptions upon admission.

Applicants must have completed the Baccalauréat with an overall score of 12/20 on their first attempt. There is no specific mathematics requirement.

Applicants are assessed on their academic performance in the three trimesters of Première and first trimester of Terminale.

* Applicants who have completed série économique et sociale (ES) option mathematiques or série scientifique (S) mathematics may be eligible for course exemptions upon admission, though not advanced credit.

Applicants must have completed two A-level exams with a grade of at least D. Two AS level exams may be considered equivalent to one A level.

Applicants from countries and education systems not specified above are admissible if they meet they achieve an overall average of at least B- (2.70 GPA on a 4.30 scale) or equivalent.

In most cases, final grade 11 and mid-term grade 12 results are used to calculate admissions averages. A test of English proficiency may also be required.

Applicants from other universities who wish to transfer to the Certificate in Foundations for Business must have an overall average of C+ (2.3 GPA on a 4.3 scale)

Concordia students interested in the Certificate in Foundations for Business must submit a new application to the university for either the Fall or Winter terms. The following admissions information is valid for all Concordia degree transfers, certificate and independent students.

Internal applicants must have completed a minimum of 12 credits at Concordia with a cumulative GPA of 2.3. There is no specific mathematics requirement. Completed university courses must have a minimum grade of "C-" to qualify for transfer credit in a John Molson program.

*Applicants in Failed Standing are subject to additional requirements.

Admission as a mature student may be granted to Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents, subject to the following conditions:

Applicants must be 21 years of age by August 1 (for the following Fall term admissions) or December 1 (for the following Winter term admissions).

  • Applicants must demonstrate that they have the potential to successfully undertake undergraduate courses, as they do not meet the normal academic requirements for admission: the Quebec Diplôme d’études collégiales (DEC), or equivalent.
  • Applicants must have been out of full-time academic study for at least 24 months in total since reaching the age of 18. Applicants who have been out of school for only 12 months are also admissible, provided that they have had no unfavourable academic record in the previous 24 months.
  • It is recommended that mature-entry applicants submit a résumé and a letter of intent.

We treat each home-school case on its own merits. Home-schooled applicants should submit all supporting application documents, e.g. SAT and AP test scores and transcripts, of any academic institution attended. In some cases, an interview(s) with a university official may be required.

You must also include a:

  • Description of the home-schooling curriculum program followed and measures of academic acquisition in the program
  • Letter of intent explaining your academic background and why you are a good candidate for the program
  • Letter from the home-educator detailing how the home-school program has prepared the applicant for university studies
  • Letter of recommendation from an impartial source indicating the applicant’s readiness for university-level study

Note: Courses marked with an asterisk (*) do not count for credit toward a John Molson Bachelor’s degree. Students intending to transfer to a John Molson Bachelor’s degree program should not register for these courses.
