Joseph Dean - "Maximizing Feasibility: Dynamic Normativity, Neutral Agency, and Ideology"

As part of our Graduate Fellows Lunchtime Seminars, the Social Justice Centre welcomes a talk by Dean Joseph.

Title: "Maximizing Feasibility: Dynamic Normativity, Neutral Agency, and Ideology"

Description: Dean is working on normative ethics and his research focuses on the stringency and flexibility of ethical principles in nonideal theory. A nonideal world calls for social transformation: a restructuring project of the status quo social order which seeks to ameliorate currently poor conditions and attempts to fulfill, with consideration to feasibility, principles and demands of justice to the greatest possible degree. His goal is to provide a normative tool, applicable to social projects and movements seeking to bring about social transformation, which maximizes the feasibility of bringing about a better world while remaining morally permissible.

Dean Joseph is a Master student in the Philosophy Department.

The talk will be followed by a commentary (TBD).

The talk will be hybrid, both in person and on zoom.
