Training designed to be better prepared for emergency situations both at home and in the workplace.
Emergency preparedness
This is a short 1.5-hour presentation to better prepare the Concordia community for the different emergencies that could occur on campus. It will cover the different risk, the corresponding procedures as well as details about the emergency notification system.

We offer a personalized training to university students or employees with mobility issues. During this training, we will explain emergency and building evacuation procedurse and show you what you need know and do in the do in these circumstances. The training may include a demonstration on the use of Evac-chairs.

First aid and CPR training
This is a one-day (8-hour) emergency first aid and CPR course that is certified by the Heart and Stroke foundation (level C).
Participants will learn adult, child and infant CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation), how to use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) as well as how to administer an EpiPen in cases of anaphylactic shock. The course will also cover how to deal with a choking victim and other common medical situations and trauma.
Course details
- CERTIFICATION: Upon successful completion, candidates receive an electronic certification card from the Heart and Stroke Foundation which is valid for 3 years.
- COSTS: This course is open to the general public at a cost of $110.00 and $90.00 for students, staff and faculty members of Concordia.
- TIMES: Courses begin at 08:30 and finish at 16:30.

This is a two-day (16-hour) basic first aid and CPR course that is certified by the CNESST (level A) and given to trained CERT faculty and staff members.

Concordia Emergency Response Team (CERT) training
Strongly recommended training for CERT members:
The Concordia Emergency Response Team (CERT) are faculty, staff and student volunteers who are trained to assist during emergency situations that occur on campus.
CERT members are trained to assist during building evacuations and other emergencies that could occur at Concordia.
This 3-hour orientation session is only available to curent university employees and students. It provides knowledge of the role and responsibilities of CERT members during an emergency and how to respond to different emergencies on campus.

This 2-hour course provides participants with basic fire prevention best practices for both at home and in the workplace. It provides hands on training with different types of fire extinguishers and the opportunity to practice using a fire extinguisher on a on a real fire simulator.

CERT renewal training is for CERT members wishing to refresh their CERT status. This needs to be done if their orientation training took place more than 3 years ago.
Online training
CERT members can also do their CERT renewal training online. To access this training, you will need to have a Concordia netname and password to login.

De-escalation training
This 1.5-hour in-person workshop equips faculty, staff and student CERT members with practical tools to recognize and respond to disruptive behavior. Participants will learn how to identify early signs of anxiety, aggression, or defensiveness, when to call for help, and how to de-escalate situations with confidence and care.
The training provides tools to:
- Communicate effectively with individuals
- Early intervention techniques to prevent or manage disruptive behaviors
- Safely respond to difficult behavior
- Manage crisis situation with confidence
Designed for frontline staff, the training is also open to administrative and support staff, faculty, and student CERT members. Departments can request private sessions for groups of 5 to 12.

- How to report a fire alarm
- How fire alarm systems differ across buildings
