Announcements


- MIGS is saddened by the passing of Aaron Fish, entrepreneur and business leader who was an early supporter of MIGS’ Will to Intervene Project. We extend our condolences to Mr. Fish’s family and friends.

- MIGS is pleased to announced that the Canadian Department of Heritage’s Anti-Racism Action Program has awarded MIGS a grant to set up the “Canadian Task Force Against Online Anti-Semitism”. The Honourable Bardish Chagger, Minister of Diversity and Inclusion and Youth, and Adam van Koeverden, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Diversity and Inclusion and Youth and to the Minister of Canadian Heritage, made the announcement on 15 October.

- MIGS is also pleased to announce that it has been awarded a grant from Heritage Canada’s Digital Citizens Initiative to establish the “Canadian Coalition to Counter COVID Digital Disinformation.” The aim to enhance Canadian citizens’ digital literacy and resiliency in the face of misinformation and disinformation related to COVID-19.

MIGS is supporting the Budapest Centre for Mass Atrocities Prevention’ event “Towards a Multipolar Task Force to Prevent Mass Atrocities In the Era of Geopolitical Change, Climate Threats to Security and Digital Transformation.” Register here.

11 November 
MIGS, in partnership with Global Action Against Mass Atrocity Crimes, is hosting a virtual series titled “Decoding Hate Speech”. The third panel  will be “The Rohingya crisis in Myanmar: A Genocide Incited on Facebook”. The speakers will be announced shortly. Register here

12 November
MIGS is hosting an online conference titled “Uyghur Under Threat”, which will feature two panel discussions with academics and survivors, followed by a roundtable on policy responses. Notable speakers include Dr. Adrian Zenz, Dr. Sophie Richardson (Human Rights Watch), Dr. Dilnur Reyhan (President of the Uyghur Institute of Europe), and Nury Turkel (Commissioner for the US Commission on Religious Freedom). Register here.

 MIGS Executive Director Kyle Matthews gave a presentation of “Artificial Intelligence and Human Rights” as part of the Budapest Centre for Mass Atrocities Prevention’s project   “Towards a Multipolar Task Force to Prevent Mass Atrocities in the Era of Geopolitical Change, Climate Threats to Security and Digital Transformation”.

Kyle Matthews spoke at a conference organized by the Digital Citizen Initiative at the Canadian Department of Heritage titled “Building Citizen Resilience.”

October 8
 MIGS partnered with Global Action Against Mass Atrocity Crimes (GAAMAC) to host “Decoding Hate Speech”. You can watch the second panel of the series “Technology and Hate Speech: friend or foe?” on our YouTube channel and listen to it on iTunes and Google Play.

October 19-21
MIGS was a collaborating partner of the International Political Science Association‘s conference The UN at 75: Challenges and Prospects for the Future of Multilateralism. MIGS’ Executive Director chaired a panel on “Human Rights Governance”.

MIGS Executive Director Kyle Matthews was interviewed by CBC News on the ongoing conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Kyle is also quoted in the Vancouver Courier  and La Presse about the conflict.

Marc-André Argentino was featured on Radio-Canada’s investigative TV show Enquête about the rise of QAnon in North America. He is also quoted in La Presse and Le Monde about the conspiracy movement and social media.
