Pathways and experiences of Black entrepreneurs in Québec

Co-led with the Provincial Employment Roundtable (PERT), this project focuses on the experiences, motivations and attitudes of Black entrepreneurs in Québec. The goal is to track the determinants of entrepreneurial success, from initial concept development to sustained and thriving business owners.

As Black Quebecers are an ethnically, linguistically, economically and socially diverse group involving first, second and third-generation Canadians, the project aims to highlight a diverse array of Black entrepreneurship to identify, develop and disseminate best practices.

The objectives of the project are to highlight the voices of Black entrepreneurs, outline support structures and strategies for success, and share the knowledge with community members and policymakers to support the growth of Black entrepreneurship in Quebec. Special attention will be paid to the role, availability, and potential for mentorship and support networks, a previously identified need within the landscape.

This was done as part of the Quebec Black Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub (Q-BEKH), which is a component of the national Black Entrepreneurship Knowledge Hub (BEKH) and a key element of the government of Canada’s Black Entrepreneurship Program.
