Supervisory committee

The Sustainable Investing Practicum Supervisory Committee is responsible for overseeing the program's operations, including ensuring the students adhere to the practicum's investment guidelines and the principles of sustainable investing. It meets on a quarterly basis to review the program's progress, including portfolio performance, any changes made to the holdings, methodology updates, communications strategy, student internships, and annual cohort recruitment updates.

Amr Addas

Amr Addas is an Adjunct Professor in the department of Finance and the Goodman MBA in Investment Management. He is also the director of the Van Berkom Investment Management Program and Van Berkom Small Cap Case Competition, as well as leading Concordia’s Sustainable Investing Practicum in collaboration with Manulife. Amr is also a member of the Faculty for the Sustainable Investment Professional Certificate (SIPC) program offered by the John Molson Executive Centre (JMEC).

Through his consulting work, Amr provides portfolio managers with a quantitative equity model and a monthly market analysis newsletter. He also offers sustainable investment training to corporate clients and financial institutions.

Amr has been affiliated with John Molson in various roles since 2005. He oversaw the John Dobson Investment room (formerly Formula Growth Investment Room) and was a Research Associate with the David O’Brien Centre for Sustainable Enterprise. Amr has been teaching at the Goodman Program’s MBA in Investment Managements since 2007 and at the Finance Department since 2006.

Amr is also involved in several volunteer activities related to sustainable investing, including serving as a member of Finance Montréal’s Working Group on Sustainable Investing, serving as a member of the Academic Advisory for the MMI Sustainable Investing Initiative, and serving on Concordia’s Joint Sustainable Investment Advisory Committee (JSIAC). Amr was also Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Finance and Sustainability Initiative until its acquisition by Finance Montréal in 2018.

Amr obtained his MBA from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1995 and his B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the American University in Cairo in 1991. Amr is an active member of the CFA Institute.

Steve Bélisle

Steve Bélisle, M.Sc., CFA, is a Senior Portfolio Manager with the Fundamental Equity Team at Manulife Investment Management. Steve joined Manulife Investment Management when Standard Life Investments’ Canadian operations were acquired by Manulife in January 2015. He began his career at Standard Life Investments as a Research Assistant following his involvement in the Standard Life/HEC Student Fund, a portfolio managed by business school students.

Steve completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and a Master’s of Science in Finance from HEC Montreal. He also holds the CFA designation.

Brian Chan, CFA, is a Senior Investment Analyst with the Fundamental Equity Team at Manulife Investment Management. Prior to joining the firm, Brian was with Standard Life Investments as an Equity Research Assistant. Brian joined Manulife Investment Management when Standard Life Investments’ Canadian operations were acquired by Manulife in January 2015. Earlier in his career, Brian worked at Dundee Securities as a Research Associate and RBC Dominion Securities. He was also a member of Concordia University’s Kenneth Woods Portfolio Management Program.

Brian completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from the John Molson School of Business. He also holds the CFA designation. 

Célia Coulibaly, M.Sc., is an Investment Associate with the Canadian Fundamental Equity Team at Manulife Investment Management. Célia joined Manulife Investment Management when Standard Life Investments’ Canadian operations were acquired by Manulife in January 2015. She began her career as a Data Analyst at American Express in the United Kingdom.

Célia holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin American Studies from the University of Southampton. She also completed a Master’s Degree in International Relations from the University of Southampton.

Nancy Galerneau

Nancy Galerneau is a member of the Canadian Portfolio Monitoring and Reporting Team at Manulife Investment Management. Nancy joined Manulife Investment Management when Standard Life Investments’ Canadian operations were acquired by Manulife in January 2015. In 2003, she began working at Standard Life Investments in the Financial Controls department. Nancy also worked at the mutual fund company Performa Financial Group Ltd.

Nancy completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Laval University.

Alexis Gerbeau

Alexis Gerbeau, M.Sc., CFA, is Head of Finance and Individual Insurance at Manulife Canada, as well as Head of Manuvie Quebec. Alexis is responsible for the financial management and control of the Individual Insurance portfolio and the Canadian Legacy portfolio. He was also previously Vice President and Chief Actuary of the Canadian Division. Alexis joined Manulife Investment Management when Standard Life Investments was acquired by Manulife in January 2015.

Alexis completed a Master’s Degree in Statistics from the University of Montreal and holds the CFA designation. He is also a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and the Society of Actuaries.

Charles-Antoine Laplante

Charles-Antoine Laplante, CFA, is Head of Finance and Strategy of Global Retirement at Manulife. In 2015, Charles-Antoine joined Manulife as Assistant Vice President and Pricing Officer of Retail Investments. He previously worked at Deutsche Bank in New York City as Director in Capital Markets and Treasury Solutions, as well as the Financial Institutions Investment Banking Group.

Charles-Antoine completed a Bachelor’s of Mathematics in Actuarial Science from the University of Waterloo and holds a CFA designation. He’s also a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, an Associate of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries.

Marc-Antoine Laporte

Marc-Antoine Laporte is the Director of Institutional Product and Advisory Services at Manulife Investment Management. He joined Manulife Investment Management when Standard Life Investments’ Canadian operations were acquired by Manulife in 2015. Marc-Antoine was previously Manager of Client Operations at Standard Life Investments. Earlier in his career, Marc-Antoine was a Senior Manager of Product Management at Laurentian Bank and also worked at BMO.

Marc-Antoine completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and a Certificate in Financial Planning from UQAM.

David Ung, M.Sc., is a Senior ESG Analyst in the Global ESG Team at Manulife Investment Management. In 2020, David joined Manulife Investment Management as an ESG Analyst. Prior to joining Manulife Investment Management, David worked in various roles in the financial sector and has been particularly involved in the responsible investment industry.  

David has completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from UQAM and a Master’s of Science in Corporate Finance from HEC Montreal.
