In a world where change is constant and disruption is the norm, innovation isn’t just a buzzword — it’s a critical set of skills for solving today’s complex challenges.

For careers in business, technology, education, visual art or social impact, developing an orientation toward innovation can turn ideas into transformative solutions.

Recognizing this need, Concordia’s Faculty of Arts and Science has launched a new Microprogram in Innovation Mindset, designed to equip learners with the tools and strategies to thrive in today’s rapidly evolving world.

Courses in Innovation at Concordia have been offered since 2024, and the new microprogram features one course in innovation per term over a 12-month period.

“The innovation courses gave me real-world skills and taught me a step-by-step approach to creating meaningful change,” explains student Parsa Fard, who is a visual artist and designer.

“The insights I've gained can be applied to any challenge I face.”

What is an innovation mindset?

“Innovation is not just about technology or entrepreneurship; it’s about learning how to think differently and apply creativity to real-world challenges,” says Ann-Louise Davidson, director of the microprogram.

Davidson has dedicated her career to integrating innovation across various disciplines, using a hands-on learning approach. She is also director of Concordia’s Innovation Lab and the innovation strategic advisor for the Faculty of Arts and Science.

“We have ensured that the Microprogram in Innovation Mindset takes a structured yet flexible approach,” Davidson explains. “For people who want to enhance their ability to think critically, collaborate effectively and turn ideas into impact, this microprogram is the perfect starting point to develop confidence as innovators and changemakers.”

The nine-credit undergraduate microprogram is open for applications by non-traditional learners, CEGEP graduates looking for a different kind of challenge and mid-career professionals who want to build their creative problem-solving abilities.

Current Concordia students can also register as an elective group to broaden their education beyond their chosen program or concentration.
