Concordia University Jurist-in-Residence, Morton S. Minc, invites you to a round table discussion on The Role of the Judiciary in a Diverse Society with The Honourable Justice Nicole Duval Hesler, former Chief Justice of the Quebec Court of Appeal.
The Honourable Nicole Duval Hesler, former Chief Justice of the Quebec Court of Appeal headlines a roundtable with Concordia undergraduates and alumni about her ground-breaking career in law, culminating in her tenure as the first woman to lead the Quebec Court of Appeal. The discussion will center on her contributions to ensuring access to justice for litigants and her views on the contested and crucial relationship between the courts and the legislature as well as a discussion on the recent decision on Bill-C-2.
Moderated by Dr. Genevieve Renard Painter, Attorney and Associate Professor, Simone de Beauvoir Institute, Concordia University.

The Honourable Madam Justice Duval Hesler was appointed to the Quebec Superior Court in 1992 and to the Court of Appeal in 2006. She became Chief Justice of the Court of Appeal of Quebec in 2011, and in that capacity, Chief Justice of Quebec. She was the first woman in the position, which she held until April 2020.
