Income taxes
International students may be required to file a tax return every year.
Overview – income tax return
- Quebec residents must file two returns: one to the Canada Revenue Agency (federal) and Revenue Quebec (provincial)
- You must declare all sources of income:
- Employment income
- Scholarships, bursaries, fellowships
- Provincial and federal income taxes are deducted from your salary on every pay cheque.
- The deadline to file your returns is April 30 – don't wait until the last minute to file!
- Employment income is found on a T4 (federal) and a Relevé 1 (Quebec) slip
- Tuition information is found on a T2202A (federal) and Relevé 8 (Quebec) slip and can be downloaded from your Student Centre account.
- If you are a recipient of a scholarship or bursary from Concordia, you will receive this tax slip in the mail.

Help and support
Both the Canadian Revenue Agency and Revenu Québec host tax information sessions for international students. These sessions usually take place in late-February or early-March. You'll find them listed on our events page.
Community tax clinics
Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP)
The CVITP is a collaboration between the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and community organizations. The organizations host tax preparation clinics and arrange for volunteers to prepare income tax and benefit returns for eligible individuals who have a modest income and a simple tax situation.
