Open work permits for spouses
Under certain conditions, your spouse/partner is eligible for an open work permit.
Eligibility requirements
Your spouse/partner is eligible for an open work permit if you are:
- Studying in one of Concordia's master’s or doctoral programs
- Studying in one of Concordia's undergraduate programs that grants a professional degree:
- Bachelor of Engineering (BEng, BE, BASc)
How to apply
When applying for their work permit, your spouse or common-law partner must provide:
- Your valid letter of acceptance
- Your proof of enrolment
- Your transcripts from your current program
- Proof of the relationship, such as your marriage certificate, or, if you are common-law spouses having lived together for at least one year, the Statutory Declaration of Common-Law Union
Your spouse can apply at the same time that you apply for your study permit or they can apply at a later time.
Note: If you are already in Canada and are applying to extend your spouse/partner's work permit, please note that the work permit cannot be extended if you are in your last term.
