Position title: Research Associate
Contract Duration: September 1, 2025, to August 31, 2026
Salary: $28.00 – 36.00/hour depending on experience and qualifications
Hours per week: 24

Job description
Reporting to Christopher Brett, the candidate will be responsible for carrying out research tasks and manage lab operations related to FRQ-NT and Concordia SOH grants focused on developing novel strategies to suppress inflammation using engineered extracellular vesicles from probiotic yeasts. Key research tasks include testing engineered extracellular vesicles using an array of cultured mammalian and human cells. Phenotyping will involve, but is not limited to, ELISA, super-resolution confocal microscopy, qPCR, western blot, and spectral flow cytometry.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to
- Lead research tasks include growth and maintenance of cultured cell lines (e.g. HEK293T, HeLa, THP-1)
- Report progress to supervisor weekly
- Participate in interdisciplinary team research projects
- Liaise with postdoc and graduate student researchers to test engineered extracellular vesicles
- On-boarding of new graduate students, including basic laboratory training
- Order lab supplies
- Maintain basic laboratory equipment
- Schedule group and subgroup meetings
Qualifications/skills required
- MSc or PhD in Immunology, Cell Biology or related fields
- Strong spoken and written English
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
- Excellent communication abilities with the ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
- Detail-oriented will robust organizational skills
- Experience with mammalian cell culture
- Ability to work with and effectively synthesize large datasets
- Experience with confocal microscopy, ELISA, flow cytometry, western blotting, qPCR and/or extracellular vesicle characterization (NTA)
