Quitting smoking or vaping
5 things you should know
- If you smoke or vape, quitting is the best thing you can do to improve your health and life.
- There are tons of benefits to quitting: from better breathing to saving money.

- Nicotine is addictive—and that’s why quitting is hard. Nicotine changes how your brain works. When you don’t get it, you can feel anxious, irritable, or down. That’s why people keep smoking or vaping.
- You’ll need strategies to handle those tough feelings. To quit successfully, it helps to learn ways to cope with stress, cravings, and other emotions that come up when your brain misses nicotine.
- You don’t have to do it alone. There are lots of tools to help you quit—like self-help guides, quit lines you can call, and one-on-one support from trained professionals.
Concordia students, staff and faculty can meet with a health professional from Health Services for one-on-one smoking cessation counselling.
