Concordia’s Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science (GCS) has reason to celebrate. It is one of the fastest growing and top-ranked engineering and computer science schools in Canada, and with 10,150 students — 5,500 undergraduates and 4,500 graduates — it is the largest in Quebec.

According to the 2021 Times Higher Education rankings, GCS is among the top 201 schools of its kind in the world.

In honour of these achievements and more, the school will launch its first-ever Gina Cody School Day on March 18, 2021.

“I have seen and been inspired by the Gina Cody School community’s strength, resilience and dedication during these challenging times,” says Mourad Debbabi, interim dean of the Gina Cody School. “This annual celebration will be a unique opportunity for all of us to come together and show our pride and support.”

The sentiment is echoed by the school’s benefactor, Gina Cody, MEng 81, PhD 89, who also serves as co-chair of the Campaign for Concordia.

“Lending my name to this school is one of my proudest achievements,” says Cody. “I am inspired by our bright and talented students, alumni, faculty and staff. On March 18, I encourage you to join the Gina Cody School Day to celebrate our incredible community.”

How to participate?

Concordia students, alumni, faculty members and staff are encouraged to take to social media on March 18 to share their school pride using the hashtag #GinaCodySchool.

Every GCS student or alumni who posts on March 18 using the #GinaCodySchool hashtag will be eligible to win one of 20 Visa gift cards valued at $100*.

Gina Cody School Day events

Two virtual events — both open to the GCS community and wider public — are planned for March 18.
