Renewing your TRV as a worker
If you are currently in Canada on a post-graduation worker permit (PGWP) you may need to renew your Temporary Resident Visa (TRV).
1. Log in to your IRCC account
You will need to start as if you are applying for a work permit. As you proceed to answer the questions, you will eventually get the option that says you are eligible to apply for the Temporary Resident Visa (TRV). Then you continue with the rest of the questionnaire.
- Select Apply to come to Canada
- Choose the option “I do not have a Personal Reference Code”
- Choose Visitor visa, study and/or work permit to determine your eligibility
- Answer the questions and you will eventually see that you are eligible to apply for the Temporary Resident Visa (TRV).
2. Complete the questionnaire and upload your documents
Complete the questionnaire and this will create your personal checklist. You should see the following:
- IMM5257 (TRV): Complete the form, validate and save it locally onto your computer. Upload the form onto your IRCC secure account
- Photo: (scan & upload a recent photograph 35mm x 45mm)
- Passport: (scan & upload your passport, make sure you include the main page with all your information and any other pages that have entry/exit stamps)
- Post-graduation work permit: scan and upload the hard copy of your PGWP or your PGWP approval letter.
3. Review and pay the processing fee
- Review the application, sign it electronically and submit the application with a payment of $100.
- Once your application is approved you will receive instructions on how and where to mail your passport in order for your new TRV to be added to your passport.
