Horizon Postdoctoral Fellowships

Plasmonics integrated lab on chip for cellular studies

Reference number: 9018
Supervisors: M.Packirisamy and Alisa Piekny

Program description

The Nobel Laureate Dr. Phillip Sharp believes that the “Third Revolution” in the life sciences that can tackle the existing challenges in studying Brain and nervous systems, cardiovascular systems, cancer diagnosis, commercializing of ideas from lab to clinics or training of personnel can happen only through collaboration of life scientists, physical scientists and engineers. This can be achieved only through interdisciplinary collaboration of engineers, physicists and biologists. Hence, the interdisciplinary research has to move beyond simple collaboration and teaming to integrate data, methodologies, perspectives, and concepts from multiple disciplines in order to advance fundamental understanding or to solve real world problems. Hence, this application aims to address this problem through recruiting an expert to bridge and to facilitate the convergence across engineering, fine arts and life science through micro and nano technologies. As part of this fellowship, the candidate will work on Integrated Lab on Chip Studies for Cellular and Bio Molecular Manipulations. Experience with plant and algae cells is added advantage. The candidate is expected to have the skill sets LOC, microfluidics, cells, protein and other bio molecules with strong background on fabrication, design and testing of microfluidic Lab on Chips including plasmonics technology.
