How can we make transportation systems more intelligent for smart cities?

I use data-driven optimization tools to improve electric-vehicle charging-service management and mobility services on demand.

Intelligent transportation systems make cities smarter and greener. My students and I are working on market-oriented and data-driven frameworks to optimize the management of electric-vehicle (EV) charging. The goal is to improve charging-service quality by accommodating customer preferences and by making these services easier to access.  If we can increase EV driver satisfaction, we will also create a more rapid shift to green transporation alternatives.

Providing mobility services on demand will also advance the social welfare of citizens in our future smart cities. We’re developing methods and software tools that can provide user-focused, personalized mobility-management solutions to more intelligently integrate public transit, taxis, car sharing, ride sharing and bike sharing. The resulting smart-phone apps will enable users to access more destinations and transportation options from their fingertips.
