Access for students
Two versions of Student ID card are currently in use: Concordia student ID cards issued after September 1, 2025, include the access features needed to scan and enter the VA building during restricted and after-hour periods.
Step 1: Verify whether your card allows access
How to identify your card:
Check the bottom right-hand corner of your Concordia student ID. If there is a number in the corner, your card supports building access.
See arrow with blurred out number in the bottom right-hand corner. This indicates that the card allows building access.
See the blank yellow rectangle in the bottom right-hand corner. This indicates that the card DOES NOT allow building access.
Step 2: Update your Concordia student ID (if required)
Visit Card Services in the J.W. McConnell building (LB-089) to replace your card.
Are you a studio arts student?
- Provide your name at the desk; your new card may already be printed and activated.
Need a student ID card?
- First card: Apply online through Card Services (fees apply)
- Lost card: Visit Card Services in-person in the J.W. McConnell building (LB-089) (fees may apply)
Access for faculty & staff
Faculty and staff who require evening and/or weekend access to the VA building must have a Concordia access card with VA access permissions.
If you already have a Concordia access card:
- Your card will be automatically updated by Campus Safety and Prevention Services (CSPS) to provide access to the VA building.
If you are a faculty or staff member with Studio Arts:
- You are pre-approved for a Concordia access card. Visit Campus Safety and Prevention Services in the Hall Building (H-118). Please bring a Concordia or Government issued picture ID. Note that your picture will be taken.
Holding events during restricted hours
Anyone hosting events or meetings at the VA building after hours must have permissions arranged in advance through Campus Safety and Prevention Service (CSPS) by email at csps@concordia.ca. This will ensure the building doors are unlock to allow guests without an access pass to enter into the building.
Planning ahead helps avoid delays at the entrance and ensures smooth, secure access to the building.
