Graduate funding
Funding is available through federal and provincial agencies, with specific support for underrepresented groups, including Entrance awards for new students and In-Program funding for continuing students.
Fellowships, funding and awards
The School of Graduate Studies (SGS) supports internal and external funding opportunities, along with complete lists of available resources and support services. These fellowships include special awards for students with particular backgrounds or studying particular research areas.
Departmental teaching assistantships
All current graduate students and new applicants are encouraged to apply for teaching assistantships.
- MA students
- PhD students: receive teaching assistantships for the first three years of their program as part of their funding packages.
- MPPPA students will be funded as far as possible, but typically are not considered beyond the second year of study in the program.
The department offers two levels of teaching assistantship.
GRADE 1 – Tutorial Leader
Grade 1 Teaching Assistant requirements:
- Perform 130 hours of marking during the term, and possible grading of final examinations
- Must also attend lectures, lead seminars and hold regular office hours during the term.
GRADE 2: Tutorial Leader

Opportunities through research centers and networks
Internal Competition: Support Program for Research Stays and Methodological Trainings Outside Quebec (2025-2026)
The Immigration Research Initiative (IRI), located in the Department of Political Science at Concordia University, announces its internal competition for master’s and doctoral students for the 2025–2026 academic year in the field of immigration. IRI is seeking applications for three funding opportunities for research stays abroad of 1 to 3 months, or for those wishing to pursue specialized methodological training that is not currently offered in Quebec.
Funded by the Secrétariat du Québec aux relations canadiennes, IRI’s objective is to build bridges between immigration research in Quebec and elsewhere in the world. Its internal support program is intended to assist master’s and doctoral students who are conducting, or who wish to conduct, a research project related to IRI’s mission.

Concours interne : programme de soutien aux séjours de recherche et aux formations méthodologiques hors-Québec (2025-2026)
L'Initiative de recherche sur l'immigration (IRI) située au Département de science politique de l'Université Concordia, annonce son concours interne s'adressant aux étudiants et étudiantes à la maîtrise et au doctorat pour l’année 2025-2026 dans le domaine de l'immigration. L'IRI est à la recherche de candidatures pour trois financements de séjours à l’étranger de 1 à 3 mois, ou pour des personnes désirant poursuivre une formation méthodologique spécialisée n’étant pas actuellement offerte au Québec.
Financée par le Secrétariat du Québec aux relations canadiennes, l'IRI a pour objectif de tisser des liens entre la recherche en immigration qui se fait au Québec et celle qui se fait ailleurs dans le monde.
