Graduate student life
Gnosis journal
Published by graduate students in the Department of Philosophy, the Gnosis journal acts as a hub of discussion and provides great opportunities for students to get involved in academic publishing and gain exposure to their work.
Founded in 1973 as a print publication, Gnosis now lives online. The journal follows a blind peer-review procedure to ensure fair and anonymous assessment of all submissions and to maintain a high standard of philosophical rigour and quality.
Elections for the two main positions with Gnosis (Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor) are held each fall; Graduate students are also encouraged to act as reviewers for work in their areas of interest which is a valuable experience for the future. It takes a collaborative effort to ensure the success of our journal.
Graduate Philosophy Students' Association (GPSA)
Concordia's Graduate Philosophy Students' Association (GPSA) represents all graduate students in the Department of Philosophy in tandem with the University’s Graduate Student Association (GSA). Being part of the GPSA is a great way to get involved, network, and socialize with other graduate philosophy students. GPSA members regularly meet to ensure that graduate students' interests and concerns are met.
Events
Events are an important part of learning. We hold many events each year:
- Listen to professional philosophers talk about their work at the speaker series, which includes an annual lecture related to ethics
- The Concordia Research Symposium in Philosophy (CRSP, pronounced "crisp") where our own professoriate shares their research, followed by a Q&A
- Thesis defences by Philosophy students
