Philosophy trains the mind to think with clarity, creativity, and courage

Why is philosophy so practical? Because it makes you a vastly better problem solver and communicator. In a world of fake news, in which the guiding role of truth in public discourse is under threat, philosophical skills allow you to make good political and life choices.

Philosophy helps to counteract a technocratic approach to policy making, which is why UNESCO instituted World Philosophy Day every third Thursday in November.

About our Department

Our faculty are active practitioners in theoretical and practical philosophy, as well as the history of philosophy, and collaborate widely with others in the field and in other disciplines.

Events

We hold regular events open to everyone, especially philosophy practitioners, academics in related fields, and students of all disciplines. Our Concordia Research Symposium in Philosophy (CRSP) features research presentations from our faculty, followed by Q&A. Our speaker series invites philosophers from around the world.
