Next-gen. Now.

MY NAME IS
YASMIN JIWANI

I’m interested in what media messages communicate about minorities and crime in Canada.

Reality TV shows reflect Canada as a country that welcomes immigrants — but is this really the case?

The media we consume can exercise power over our imaginations. It can influence stereotypes and portray racial minorities as the “Other.”

My name is Yasmin Jiwani and I’m the Concordia University Research Chair in Intersectionality, Violence & Resistance and a professor of Communication Studies.
