MY NAME IS
STEVE BONSPIEL
I’m on a mission to preserve the Mohawk language.
By visiting Mohawk communities Kahnawake and Kanesatake, and interviewing Mohawk speakers, policy experts, and federal politicians, we're highlighting the language’s deep history, meaning and relevance today.
We’re taking the leap not only as journalists, but as citizens, to motivate our government to increase funding for Indigenous languages — key parts of first peoples' identity and culture.
My name is Steve Bonspiel and I’m the 2018 Journalist-in-Residence in the Department of Journalism.
