Flu and Covid-19 vaccination in the community
Anyone in Québec can get the flu vaccine for free in the community by booking through Clic Santé. Tip: International students, if booking in the community, check off the box I confirm that I do not have a Quebec Health Insurance Number.
The Covid-19 vaccine is also available in the community. It is available for free to vulnerable people (see the criteria). If you do not meet the criteria to get the Covid-19 vaccine for free, but you want to reduce your risk of complications from Covid, you can get the vaccine, but you will have to pay. Book your Covid shot through Clic Santé.
Important information for vulnerable individuals
The Covid-19 vaccine is recommended and available for free to vulnerable people (see the criteria).
Québec's Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux recommends that people over 75 receive the high-dose flu vaccine.
The Covid-19 and high-dose flu vaccines are not available at Health Services but are available in the community. If you are in a vulnerable group, we encourage you to get your shots in the community by booking through Clic Santé. You can request the high-dose flu vaccine when you go for your appointment. You can also call to ask if the Local Point of Service Centre (1-877-644-4545) or pharmacy where you are planning to go carries the high-dose vaccine.
More information about the flu vaccine
Getting the flu vaccine will reduce your chance of getting the flu or spreading it to others. If you do catch the flu, being vaccinated can make the illness less severe. You are also less likely to develop complications from the flu. The flu vaccine contributes to herd immunity and the benefits of getting the flu vaccine far outweigh the risk of not getting it. Most side effects of the flu vaccine are minor, last only a short time, and are easily-managed at home. Severe reactions are rare; learn more about them in the link (below the table).
