Rowena Chodkowski
New York
Pursuing a PhD in Humanities
As an intermedia artist who also studies media, my path to the PhD wasn’t exactly traditional. At Concordia’s Milieux Institute, I’ve found an electric community of innovators where “non-traditional” is the norm!
Milieux has connected me with opportunities to exhibit, conference, publish and even take on leadership roles. As a co-founder of Nostagain, I’ve helped our student-led initiative grow from a small local event to an international presence in nostalgia studies. Milieux’s got a special synergy—if you want to make it happen, you can.

Adia Giddings
New Jersey
Pursuing an MA in History
When choosing a Master’s program, I wanted to find a university where I could feel part of a community. Concordia University and the city of Montreal offered me a tight-knit environment that helped me feel connected to both the city and the university, even while working on a thesis project that can often feel isolating.
The faculty at Concordia, along with the student services department, does an excellent job of welcoming new students. Coming from a small town in New Jersey, everything about Montreal was new to me, but Concordia provided a supportive community and resources that made the transition much easier.

Hannah Jakob
Montana
Pursuing a PhD in Art Education
I chose Concordia because it’s where art and science come together. As a scientific illustrator, I’ve been able to work across disciplines and feel supported in exploring new ideas. The campus has a truly interdisciplinary spirit and makes space for research that doesn’t fit neatly into one box. Living in Montreal has been a mega bonus! It’s so easy to get around the city, and you can find authentic food from all over the world. The community here makes the big adventure of grad school feel welcoming and doable.
