CSLP to host David J. Blacker for talk on the educational value of entheogens

The CSLP is hosting David J. Blacker for a talk titled “How can we learn from psychedelics? Locating educational value in entheogenic experiences,” on December 2nd, from 2:30 to 4pm.
In this talk, Dr. Blacker will discuss the educational claims commonly made about entheogenic experiences, and what we might make of them beyond the medical/therapeutic discourse. Dr. Blacker will offer some conceptual categories for thinking through these claims with the goal of enabling further pathways in the global conversation about the value of entheogens.
David J. Blacker is a professor specializing in the philosophy of education in the School of Education at the University of Delaware. He previously held appointments at Illinois State University and Teachers College, Columbia University. His writings explore a wide range of issues in education policy and philosophy. He is the author of four books, including The Falling Rate of Learning and the Neoliberal Endgame (Zero), Democratic Education Stretched Thin: How Complexity Challenges a Liberal Ideal (SUNY) and Dying to Teach: The Educator’s Search for Immortality (Columbia/TC).

Dans cette conférence, le Dr Blacker discutera des prétentions éducatives couramment formulées à propos des expériences enthéogéniques, et de ce que nous pourrions en tirer au-delà du contexte médical/thérapeutique. Le Dr Blacker proposera quelques catégories conceptuelles pour réfléchir à ces revendications dans le but de permettre de nouvelles voies dans la conversation globale sur la valeur des enthéogènes.
David J. Blacker est professeur à l'école d'éducation de l’Université de Delaware, spécialisé dans la philosophie de l'éducation. Il a précédemment occupé des postes à l'Illinois State University et au Teachers College, Columbia University. Ses écrits explorent un large éventail de questions relatives à la politique et à la philosophie de l'éducation.
