Victoria McNeill

Music Therapist, Cummings Centre for Seniors in Montreal, Quebec

1. What do you value most from your Concordia music therapy experience?

The practicum experiences in workplace contexts were very valuable to me. I was able to apply everything I learned and made lasting connections in the City of Montreal that have helped support my professional ambitions. I also maintain contact with my classmates, which offers support as I navigate through this rapidly growing field.

2.  Is there a particular memory that stands out from your time at Concordia?

I remember our first improvisation as a class very clearly. Having never really experienced music making like that before, it was in that moment that I understood where this training could take me.

3. What advice would you give to someone considering music therapy?

Music therapy is a powerful form of treatment, full of committed professionals. Follow the path that has been set out by those before you, but be ready to think creatively. Creativity is at the heart of what we do as music therapists. We have to be ready to flex with the clients we serve and the world around us.
