Meet Victoria Bylina

My name is Victoria, I am a 4th year student studying International Business and Economics. I was born and raised in Ontario but my family is originally from Poland. I love to travel, hike, play sports, learn new languages, and meet new people. Moving away from home has become a hobby of mine - hence why I went on exchange. If you want great food, drink, friends, beautiful cities and countrysides, Lyon is the place to explore!

My favourite part of going on exchange was…

The people I met. Everyone always says when you go on exchange you'll meet amazing people, I always thought this had a 50% chance of happening because is it possible to meet great people in every corner of the world? In my opinion yes. It's so important to open yourself up and get to know anyone you have a good feeling about, they could change your life for the better

I felt like I made a great decision to go on exchange when ...

I knew it was going to be hard to say goodbye... Also when I knew I would want to be back.

A tip I would give to students applying for exchange is...

You don't have to do absolutely everything you planned or your head might explode. Yes, it's great to follow through with opportunities that come, but its also okay to slow down and just enjoy where you're at in the moment. You can complete the list of 50 cities to visit but you can also take the time to feel like a local and do random things in your own city. There is absolutely no right or wrong way to do it!

The most unexpected part of exchange was…

When I finally start to feel comfortable in the city without needing google maps. The amount of wrong trains, metros, and buses I took before I could sort of navigate like a local was embarrassing. But that moment you can lead yourself or your friends by memory is so sweet. Even had people trust me enough to ask for directions! Good luck to where they ended up but what a great feeling that was!
