This high-level workshop will introduce students to some modern, free, academic tools and how they support digital note-taking for research writing. The workshop will briefly introduce students to some principles of the Zettelkasten technique with examples for taking literature notes. It will show how to associate notes and writing with bibliographic information in Zotero. Emphasis will be on the free tools Zotero and Logseq, with brief discussion of Zettlr or alternative personal knowledge management tools and resources. The workshop will offer some basic techniques of using Markdown and simple queries but does not require programming knowledge.
Learning Objectives
1. Gain awareness of a note-taking technique, which is productive for writing.
2. Use the new, advanced note-taking functionality in Zotero 6.
3. Discover how to integrate references from your Zotero library with notes you create in a dedicated personal knowledge management application.
