Loïc Chauvin

À la fois fasciné et effrayé par la façon dont l'humain joue à l'apprenti-sorcier en intervenant sur la nature, Loïc Chauvin fait cohabiter, au sein de ses projets, des sentiments contradictoires sous une forme concise, pouvant prendre la forme de sculptures, de photographies et d’interventions. En ce sens, il conçoit ses projets comme des oxymores : un procédé poétique qui consiste à juxtaposer deux éléments contraires. Il concrétise son idée en collaborant avec la réalité matérielle, c’est-à-dire en impliquant des gens, des choses, le climat, le vivant, les saisons, le territoire. Il se consacre à un projet à la fois, s'adaptant aux besoins spécifiques de chacun. Ses œuvres finales mettent en tension la simplicité de l'idée initiale et les complications de sa réalisation. Dans un esprit pince-sans-rire, elles sont accessibles, paradoxales, drôles, sérieuses, poétiques, absurdes.

Loïc Chauvin est un artiste multidisciplinaire de Montréal. Diplômé de l’Université Concordia en photographie (2019), il y poursuit une maîtrise en sculpture et céramique (2022-2025), grâce au soutien du Concordia Merit Scholarship.

Both fascinated and frightened by the way humans play the sorcerer's apprentice by intervening in nature, Loïc Chauvin's projects combine contradictory feelings in a concise form that can take the form of sculptures, photographs and interventions. He conceives his projects as oxymorons: a poetic process of juxtaposing two opposing elements. He gives concrete form to his ideas by collaborating with material reality, i.e., by involving people, things, the climate, the living, the seasons, the territory. He devotes himself to one project at a time, adapting to the specific needs of each. His final works bring into tension the simplicity of the initial idea and the complications of its realization. In a tongue-in-cheek spirit, they are accessible, paradoxical, funny, serious, poetic, absurd.

Loïc Chauvin is a multidisciplinary artist from  Montreal. A graduate of Concordia University in Photography (2019), he is pursuing an MFA in Sculpture and Ceramics with the support of the Concordia Merit Scholarship.
