David H. Jones was an Athletic Therapy Laboratory instructor in the Department of Exercise Science (now the Department of Health, Kinesiology and Applied Physiology) for more than 20 years. He passed away suddenly in 2014.

During his time at Concordia, he was heavily involved in the national certification of hundreds of students, and was an integral part of the team that launched the PERFORM Centre at the university.

Dave was extremely dedicated to his students and was a beloved husband, father, colleague and friend.

The David H. Jones Memorial Scholarship in Athletic Therapy was created in 2015 to honour his memory. The scholarship is intended to encourage and reward students currently enrolled in the Specialization in Athletic Therapy at Concordia who have demonstrated a strong commitment to the discipline and who are actively pursuing a career in the field.

“Dave was one of the most respected lab instructors in our Athletic Therapy program. He could transmit a quiet confidence to you. He believed in his students even if they didn’t believe in themselves.

We have been overwhelmed by people’s support, whether through donations to the endowment or offering their time. Born to Run highlights how much Dave meant to so many people.”

Born to Run

Born to Run was launched in 2015 by Christina Grace and Mariann Onofrio, full-time instructors in the Department of Health, Kinesiology and Applied Physiology.

Every year in May, the Concordia athletic therapy community gathers at this event to commemorate Dave and the legacy he left behind. Funds raised throughout the year and during the event go towards supporting the David H. Jones Memorial Scholarship in Athletic Therapy.

The annual fundraiser has been going strong for the past seven years with over $85,000 raised. Our ultimate goal is to raise $100,000 by the 10th anniversary in 2024 to support even more students.

Born to Run will be taking place in-person this year!

Our run will be eight kilometers, in honour of the event’s eighth anniversary.

We will close with a short Zumba session, followed by refreshments, and the announcement of this year’s winner. We hope you will come out and join us!

Date: Thursday, May 19, 2022
