About the host organization
Tkà:nios is a Kanien'kehá:ka non-profit initiative based in Kahnawà:ke that revitalizes Indigenous knowledge through land-based education, food sovereignty, environmental stewardship, and cultural wellness. Guided by the 13 lunar cycles, we create hands-on learning opportunities that reconnect people of all ages with traditional foods, medicines, seed saving, harvesting, arts, language, and Haudenosaunee teachings. Through community gardens, workshops, cultural gatherings, and youth leadership opportunities, Tkà:nios empowers individuals and strengthens community resilience while fostering reciprocal relationships with the Land.
Responsibilities
- Assist in developing a communications plan, storytelling, bringing our social presence to life.
- Assist in bringing our Food Hub building and land design to life in 3D rendering.
Assets and requirements
You must be a Concordia student enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program through the fall 2026 term.
- Strong video-editing skills
- Great communication skills
- Artistic, creative
- Self-motivated, passionate about food preservation, fermentation, seed-saving, and land-based practices
- Experience in grant-writing a plus
Duration
September 8, 2026 - November 27, 2026 (12 weeks)
These dates could be negotiated between the intern and the host organization. Internships might be renewed for up to 3 terms if that is of interest to both the student and the host.
Location/site of employment
- Site of work: Hybrid
- Address(es): Kahnawake community garden, and other parts of the community, and possibly the greenhouse in Senneville
Note: Interns are invited to work at SHIFT's co-working space (LB-145) throughout the work week between 10-4.
Working style
Independence: This role is well suited to students who enjoy taking initiative and learning through hands-on experience. Students will have the opportunity to independently manage projects and contribute meaningfully to the organization's work.
Support: You'll have access to guidance and feedback throughout the internship, with support available when questions or challenges arise.
Hours
180 hours total, 15 hours a week
Remuneration
$3,750
