Course registration

How to add undergraduate courses and finalize your registration

Graduate students, consult course registration information from the School of Graduate Studies.

Note registration dates & deadlines

Course registration for the upcoming academic year opens in the spring.

  • You can find your specific enrollment date in the Academic section of your Student Centre.
  • Courses can fill up quickly once registration opens, so registering as early as you can gives you the widest choice of classes and sections.
  • Late registration fees apply if you register after the first day of class

Key deadlines

Did Not Enter (DNE) deadline

Generally two weeks after the start of classes in the fall and winter terms. This is the last day to:

  • Add a course
  • Be enrolled from a waitlist
  • Drop a course with a refund

When you drop a course before DNE deadline, you will see:

  • the course removed from your academic record
  • a credit to your account for any tuition fees you already paid

Discontinued (DISC) deadline

Generally nine weeks after the start of classes. This is the last day to drop a course. You remain responsible for paying tuition (no refund).

Plan your schedule

Even if your enrollment date is still in the future, it’s important to plan your schedule early

Registering as soon as your enrollment window opens gives you more course options.

Tools to help build out your schedule

Find courses

Make sure you choose the correct term.

  • ALL TERMS – All fall-term and winter-term courses, plus full-year courses
  • SUMMER – Summer-term courses only
  • FALL – Fall-term courses only
  • FALL/WINTER – Courses that run September through April
  • WINTER – Winter-term courses only

Course status symbols

Waitlist

Course is full, but you may be able to join a waitlist.

Register for courses

Once your enrollment date opens, you can add summer, fall and winter courses.

Availability can change quickly after registration opens.

To successfully register for a course, you must complete all steps:

  1. Add the course to your cart
  2. Select 'Enroll' to finish enrolling
  3. Confirm the course appears in your schedule in your Student Centre

Important: Adding a course to your cart alone does not register you.

Keep in mind

You don’t need to pay tuition when you register. Payment is due closer to the start of each term.

Adding online courses (eConcordia)

eConcordia courses require an extra step. You must activate the course on the eConcordia platform. Activation opens at 2 p.m. on the first day of class.

Waitlists

If a course is full — or seats are reserved — you may be able to join a waitlist

If a space becomes available, the system can automatically add the course to your schedule up to the DNE deadline.

You will receive an email notification if you are enrolled from a waitlist.

Waitlist rules and limits

  • Not all courses offer a waitlist
  • Just because you join a waitlist doesn't mean you are guaranteed to be enrolled
  • You cannot join a waitlist if you are already at the maximum course load
  • You may waitlist only one section of a course
  • You may waitlist up to six credits per term
  • You must remove yourself from the waitlist if you decide you don't want to take the course

You can monitor your waitlist position by viewing your schedule in list view. To remove yourself from a waitlist, follow the steps to drop the course.

If no waitlist is available, contact the department offering the course for next steps.

Change your schedule

Swap courses (recommended)

The swap function lets you add a new course while automatically dropping another. This reduces the risk of losing your spot and works for courses with a waitlist.

Using drop and add separately can be risky — another student may take the seat before you can re-enroll.

When you can't swap classes

  • If you have a financial hold
  • After the DNE deadline
  • Across different summer sessions
  • To change a lab or tutorial section if the lecture is full. Otherwise, you risk losing your spot entirely.

Problems adding a course

Be mindful of these potential restrictions if you're not able to add a course while registering:

  • There is a time conflict - Any component (lecture, lab, tutorial) overlaps with another course.
  • Requisites are not met - Check the Undergraduate Calendar.
  • Seats are reserved - Some courses are restricted to students in specific programs.
  • Department consent is required
  • You have a registration hold - blocks on your account can prevent registration.
