Horizon Postdoctoral Fellowships

Multi-stakeholder partnership effectiveness in formulating and implementing community climate action plans

Reference number: 14005
Supervisor: Adriane MacDonald

Program description

Addressing complex sustainability challenges like climate change requires coordinated actions from organizations of all types, including governments, businesses, and non-profit agencies. An increasingly popular way that organizations are enacting their social responsibility to these challenges is through multi-stakeholder partnerships (MSPs). While MSPs are presented as one of the most effective ways to address complex sustainability challenges, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), there is little evidence showing that MSPs have been successful at advancing the SDGs.

This program of research aims to develop evidence-based insights that support and/or challenge popular claims about the role of MSPs in realizing the SDGs with a specific focus on local sustainability initiatives in Canada.

The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to contribute expertise to the design and implementation of research protocols (e.g., surveys, interview protocols, and coding schemes) to collect data about existing climate action partnerships and the current state of greenhouse gas emission reduction targets, measurement, monitoring, and planning in Canadian municipalities.

They will also participate in the PI’s research teams and mentor graduate students.

The postdoctoral fellow will also be expected to initiate, and collaborate on, other research projects on multi-stakeholder sustainability partnerships, and sustainable development more broadly.
