Doctoral Peer Mentorship Program
The Doctoral Peer Mentorship Program connects first-year PhD students with experienced PhD Peers for supportive mentorship, community-building, and guidance.
Navigating the PhD together
The Doctoral Peer Mentorship Program is a new initiative from Concordia’s School of Graduate Studies, launching in Fall 2025. This program helps incoming PhD students adapt to their doctoral experience through weekly small-group sessions. These Mentorship circles will create space for honest conversations, shared strategies, and meaningful peer connection.
Whether you’re looking to support others or seeking guidance yourself, the program is designed to strengthen your experience and sense of belonging.
For mentees
Starting a PhD can be both exciting and overwhelming, but you don’t have to do it alone.
As a mentee you’ll be matched with a small group of peers and a trained mentor who understands the challenges of beginning doctoral life. Through regular meetings and guided discussions, you’ll:
Explore helpful strategies and academic resources
Gain clarity on expectations and available supports
Build confidence and community from day one
Mentorship groups begin in Fall 2025.
For mentors
Are you a PhD student who has completed your comprehensive exams and wants to give back to the Concordia community?
Join us as a Doctoral Peer Mentor and help guide new doctoral students through their first year. This paid opportunity (approx. 5 hours/week at $30/hour) allows you to:
- Lead mentorship circles and create welcoming and inclusive spaces
- Facilitate goal-setting and peer discussions
- Strengthen your skills in leadership, communication and mentorship
- Build connections across faculties and disciplines
For faculty and staff
Faculty and staff are key to the success of this initiative. If you know a doctoral student who is community-minded, empathetic, and eager to support others, please encourage them to apply for this valuable leadership experience.
