Call for Participation - Second Annual Graduate Conference in Irish Studies

The Irish Studies department at Concordia University (Montréal) invites graduate students working on Irish topics to submit abstracts to be considered for its second annual North American Graduate Conference.
We understand the paradigm of “Irish Spaces” to include here the various transformations and circulations of spatiality and materiality in a globalized, post-Celtic Tiger Ireland, as well as the cultural landscapes (both real and imagined) offered by texts and histories throughout the course of Irish modernity. We propose that attention to these shifting arrangements of space--in relation to the subjects, objects, and actors living within them--creates possibilities for an interdisciplinary reflection and critique of the various processes and powers affecting Ireland at present and across history.
Topics of Interest
The breadth of this theme includes literary, historical, political, and cultural concerns within Irish Studies, as well as presentations on society, culture, history, the arts and epistemologies. We offer these possible trajectories of investigation:

Abstract Submission
Please submit an abstract of approximately 250-300 words outlining the crucial argument of your paper. Presentations will last between 15 and 20 minutes. A brief biography should also accompany your abstract.
Creative Works
Please submit a multimedia/creation ‘abstract’ consisting of 4-6 slides of artwork OR a short video clip to accompany your written abstract.
Should you wish to submit an alternative presentation, one that does not conform to these two proposed methods, please contact the organizing committee.
Please note that your abstract and biography might be included in the conference program.
Conference Structure
In addition to the presentations and our keynote lecture, we will host one open, mediated, roundtable discussion. We wish to create a forum for all participants to voice their thoughts about the future of Irish Studies and provide a platform for all to discuss an issue pertinent to modern-day Irish cultural, political, social, or economic life.

Partial travel funding will be available for a limited number of conference participants.
