Georgian Football Club

Our goal

To re-unite players, coaches and fans of the SGWU Georgian Football era (circa 1967-1972) in support of today’s generation of Concordia Football Stingers.

Get involved and join fellow Georgians in helping the next generation of Concordia football players reach their academic and athletic goals.

The Georgians

From 1967 to 1972, Georgian football squads fought for the glory of their school. It was at a time when life moved at a different pace than it does today, and football was much more of a game, much less of a business.

In 1973, Sir George Williams University merged with Loyola College to form Concordia University, and the Georgian name became the Stingers we know today.

In 2017, long-time Concordia University coach Pete Regimbald reconnected with former Georgian corner linebacker, Bruce Charron. Pete suggested that it might be fun to gather a few Georgians for the 2017 Concordia Homecoming Football Game. Bruce reached out to a few local Georgians. The rest, as they say, is history.

Thirty-three Georgians gathered that year for a raucous 50th Anniversary Reunion, dubbed the first "Georgian Homecoming Huddle", and in 2018 an expanded group founded the Georgian Football Club whose mission is to render eternal their unique philosophy for Friendship, Football, Fun and Lifelong Learning.

Our goal is to mentor and provide financial aid through the Georgian Football Club Endowment to the next generation of Concordia football players.

Take part in the Georgian Life Coach Program

In the spring of 2019, we launched our “Old Player to Young Player” mentorship program to enable cross-generational sharing of encouragement, ideas, and networking opportunities — all in support of our mission to improve the lives of young Stinger Football players!

This program benefits both current Stingers football players and Georgians alike. We are looking to expand our network of mentors willing to connect with young Stingers who reach out to us for moral and practical support as they begin to plan for the future.

Get involved! If you would like to become a mentor, please email Russell Chapman at russell.chapman@sympatico.ca.

Support the GFC Award

In 2018, the Georgian Football Club's founding director, the late, great Bruce Charron, established the Georgian Football Club Award in support of our mission to help today’s Concordia Stinger football players achieve their educational ambitions and improve their lives.

That year, responding to Bruce's leadership, 32 generous Georgians and friends contributed to the award to help Stinger football players dream big, academically and athletically. We raised more than $24,000, allowing us to endow the award and support our athletes in perpetuity.

In the spring of each year, Stinger coaches select one deserving player to receive the award, which is presented by a Georgian representative at the annual Stinger Football Banquet.
